Maintaining Genomic Health in a Changing World

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Organising Committee, we wish to extend a warm invitation to the 14th International Conference on Environmental Mutagens (ICEM). We are excited to see you in person again, 4 years after our last meeting in Ottawa, Canada. This conference is sponsored jointly by the European Environmental Mutagenesis and Genomics Society (EEMGS) and the United Kingdom Environmental Mutagenesis Society (UKEMS).

ICEM 2026 will be held at Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) in the heart of Scotland’s capital city. Edinburgh nestles between the rivers Almond and Esk on the southern shores of the Firth of Forth. The city is a beautiful blend of tradition and modernity, with many parts of the city dating back to medieval times.

The theme of the ICEM 2026 is “Blending new technology with traditional genotoxicity approaches to solve real world problems”. Developing new technologies to understand the impacts on our genome and our health is vital, as is the continued deployment of state of the art approaches developed over recent years. Mechanistic understanding of genome threats, the use of innovative in vitro models, artificial intelligence and novel bioinformatics platforms, are essential and will be a key focus across the programme.

The 14th ICEM will offer 30 symposia, as well as 10 plenary lectures and a series of interactive poster sessions from scientists in environmental mutagenesis, genomics, and related fields. Speakers will present their latest findings on how chemical, physical and biological agents damage our genomes, the cellular processes that deal with induced DNA damage, the health consequences of unrepaired damage, and regulatory advances in these areas.

The programme will offer research symposia about cutting-edge approaches deployed in environmental and genomic health. Researchers from around the world will present their latest work in poster and platform sessions and interact with other attendees to develop future collaborations.

We will ensure a strong “social events” programme, providing opportunities for networking and informal interactions, including a gala dinner at the National Museum of Scotland. A program of tours and special events for accompanying family members will also operate throughout the week allowing delegates to explore the beauty of Edinburgh and Scotland.

We look forward to welcoming you in Edinburgh in September 2026 – you definitely will not want to miss it!
